Space Waste
Debris left on the moon's surface.
Lunar Missions
Shown above are planetary missions that have smashed into the Moon, either as a full spacecraft or as parts. Humans are really great at generating and distributing trash- there are nearly 100 bags of human waste left behind on the moon- and with countries around the globe planning missions to return, there will be a lot more space waste, both on the lunar surface and in Earth’s orbit.
In August 2023, Russia’s Luna-25 probe crashed into the Moon’s surface. Shortly after, India’s Chandrayann-3 mission successfully landed in the southern polar region, making India the fourth country to land on the Moon.
